The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has denied recruiting 352 teachers whose names are contained in a list circulating on social media, terming it as fake.
TSC Head of Communications Kihumba Kamotho on Sunday said all employment vacancies are advertised through the media and the commission’s website — www.tsc.go.ke — after which the applicants are interviewed and selected either at TSC county offices or through schools’ boards of management.
“The list in circulation is fake and it has not originated from TSC,” said Mr Kimotho.
The list bears a forged name and signature of a senior officer within the Commission’s Teacher Management Directorate.
Mr Kimotho said, the commission has established that some people are using the list to solicit bribes from unemployed teachers and members of the public who may have an interest in the employment of teachers.
He said TSC does not solicit for funds from job applicants.
“The entire recruitment process is free of charge and applicants are not required to pay for any service in respect of employment,” he said.
He said, TSC only processes employment for successful candidates who have gone through the recruitment process.
He said the process entails submitting an application for advertised vacancies and attending interviews at the TSC county offices or post primary institutions.
“Individuals who may have been asked to pay any money in respect of the listed names or any other position should report to the Police, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) or any other security agency for appropriate action,” he said.
In the list, dated March 23, and allegedly signed by Mrs Nkatha Murungi, the 'recruits' are being directed to report to county offices by May 3.
Those recruited are allegedly from Baringo, Kakamega, Kisii, Nairobi, Vihinga, Nakuru, Homa Bay, Nandi, Nyamira and Trans Nzoia counties.
