TSC kenya CEO Nancy Macharia announces transfer of several headteachers and deputies this December 2019 2020; says the sick, those about to retire to be spared.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced that the commission is going to conduct a massive transfer of headteachers and their deputies in the month of December.
While making the announcement, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated that the transfer was, however, only restricted to a section of teachers adding that those who have medical complications (sick) and those nearing their retirement ages (56 yrs and above) would be spared from the exercise.
In what is seen as a major shakeup, the commission has directed all county directors to compile data for school administrators in readiness for the transfers.
In June this year, TSC Deputy Director in charge of staffing, Dr Dorothy Owuor, instructed the county directors to collate data for institutional administrators within their areas of jurisdiction.
According to TSC, the commission had finished working on the data for heads and principals serving in their home counties and those who have served in the same station for over nine years.
Sources privy to TSC indicates that the commission has finalised the transfer letters for the affected teachers and are set to be dispursed at any time in December.
The commission says the transfers and deployments are being undertaken for various reasons including, replacement of headteachers and principals who have retired, to strengthen the management of some of the learning institutions, to avoid cases of teachers staying for so long in the same working stations as well as heeding to the requests of teachers, who have requested to be transferred to certain working stations.
Some of the massive transfers happened in the months of April, August and December in 2018. In April 2019, the commission slowed down the transfers with only a handful of the heads being moved.
Reports indicate that the commission now prefers moving the administrators in December as opposed to April and August to minimise disruptions and for a smooth transition.
TSC kicked off the delocalization of teachers in January 2018, an exercise which faced massive resistance from some of the teachers’ unions including Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT.
Knut argued that the exercise should be executed in a humane manner and not forcefully.
