Sustainability
It is our desire to promote sustainable tourism by attempting to minimize our impact on the environment. Our aim is to ensure that development brings a positive experience for the local communities by involvement and the generation of employment. In addition, we support and contribute to the conservation of the animals and their habitat, while at the same time showing our guests the beauty of wildlife and landscapes in a respectful way.

Our safaris take you into private game reserves that are rich in-game but are not visited by mass tourism. You have the chance to encounter the ‘Big Five’ and other African wildlife in their natural habitat, to enjoy Kenya´s magnificent scenery and meet friendly people.

The Lodge
The Rhino Watch Safari Lodge offers maximum comfort in a friendly atmosphere and provides an ideal base for safari game drives in various parks and protected areas that surround the lodge. These areas are one of the best places in Africa to see the rhino.

The Lodge is situated in Kenya´s central highlands nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. The magnificent view of Mt Kenya is only one of the reasons to choose for a safari holiday here. The complex offers a number of different accommodation styles, including luxury safari tents, comfortable chalets, and cozy family homes.

Our experienced staff and complete kitchen allow us to offer virtually any type of food. The menu includes vegetarian dishes, a children´s menu, fresh fish from the Indian Ocean or the mountain streams of the Aberdares, the best quality beef from the pastures of the central highlands, and Indian rice dishes. You name it, we can prepare it. Every day we also serve a delicious selection of fresh fruits and vegetables from the fertile gardens of the surrounding area.

The Rhino Watch Safari Lodge is located in the vast plains between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. It is our concern that all our guests feel comfortable with us. That is why there are different accommodations for different requirements. In the upper area of the complex, there are 5 double chalets and 2 family chalets. These are pure feel-good accommodations where you also like to stay, relax, and enjoy. In the lower area, there are 9 exclusive safari tents that were lovingly built in a bush forest. Since September 2013 there has also been the new, exclusive honeymoon chalet, which is located slightly outside the complex.

Drinks are served in our cozy bush bar. The hotel complex is only accessible to guests of the Rhino Watch Lodge and is closed to the public. So all guests are among themselves. The bush restaurant, completed in September 2012, offers maximum comfort in a warm atmosphere. Here we serve delicacies from our bush kitchen. Also new is the outside terrace directly in front of the restaurant.

In the middle of the lodge, there is a pond where weaver birds like to nest. Right next to it we built a library with a small sunset bar. Here is a TV with cable connection available to learn the latest from all over the world. On the roof, you have a great view and you can watch birds in the roofs of the trees. A birdwatching veranda at the pond has also been open since December 2014.

The veranda is surrounded by blooming flowers and bushes. The ideal place to take tea. Next to the Sunset Bar, there is a pavilion that we use for demonstrations. Small seminar groups can also be accommodated here. Special interest groups can also make excellent use of this space, such as yoga or meditation.

There has been a small spa section since December 2014. This is equipped with a sauna, a relaxing jacuzzi, and a massage room. Here we offer various relaxing massages, a real relaxation after an exhausting safari day. We are constantly striving to further align the lodge to the needs of our guests and thus
to create the highest standard for your well-being. Visit us on Rhino Watch, experience pure wilderness in the surrounding protected areas and

Solio Reserve
The ‘Solio Ranch’ is one of the finest wildlife parks in Africa, which hasn´t figured on the tourist map for generations. The park is a fenced, privately-owned wildlife conservancy geared towards rhino conservation. The Solio Game Reserve was founded in 1970 when the owner of the Solio cattle ranch fenced off a large section of land and dedicated it to conservation. The park plays a major part in the protection and breeding of black rhinos in Kenya. Breeding has been so successful that rhino from Solio has stocked game reserves all over Africa. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for more information on the Solio Reserve and rhino conservation.

The park entrance to this wildlife and nature paradise is located only 5 minutes away from the Rhino Watch Safari Lodge, which is one of the reasons we consider the Solio Reserve one of our main attractions. In addition to the world’s largest population of white rhinos and the near hundred black rhino, the Solio Reserve is inhabited by different other wildlife, such as buffalo, zebra, giraffe, oryx, antelope, Thompson’s gazelle, impala, waterbuck, and warthog. The park also offers some of the best leopard viewings in the country, and lion and cheetah can also be found. Our safari team is almost daily underway in the Solio Reserve and is constantly informed about the movements of the animals. Unforgettable game drives are guaranteed.

The Solio Reserve is also an ideal place for bird watching. The acacia forest in the middle of the reserve is traversed by a river that at times turns into a swamp-like area. This habitat is a paradise for birds. Including the more than 300 species that are found in the game, the reserve is European rollers, flycatchers, and birds of prey such as vultures, eagle owls, Montagu’s Harriers, long-crested eagles, and buzzards. Also crowned cranes and the European stork can be found here every year.

Despite a concerning decline of lions in Africa, the lion population in the Solio Reserve has managed to stabilize itself in the last few years. New since 2012 is our nightly game safaris into the Solio Reserve to observe these big cats and other animals. Cheetahs, lions, hyenas, and leopards are mainly nocturnal hunters, which can make night observations an exhilarating experience.

Game drives into the Solio Reserve are taking place from the Rhino Watch Lodge. As part of our Rhino specials, we visit the park during almost all our game safaris. However, we are more than happy to offer you a single game safari with one of our experienced Solio guides. Please contact us for further details.

The Solio Reserve operates one of the oldest and most successful projects for the conservation of rhinos in their natural habitat. To educate more on the endangered rhino, the Rhino Watch Lodge offers a special Rhino Camp, commencing at the beginning of 2013, which includes workshops and lectures by rhino ecologist Dr. Felix Patton.
