KMTC intake and Fee structure

The Kenya Medical Training College is a state-owned Corporation entrusted under the Ministry of Health with the responsibility of training different health disciplines to serve both local and international markets. The health department gets its direction from the national Agenda, and the college ensures that its strategies are in line with those of the sector. The college was established through an act of Parliament in 1990 under Health Ministry.

With accreditation from the Ministry of Education, the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has a majority of enrolments in post basic diploma, diploma, and certificate levels. It operates in two different semesters every academic year with semester one beginning early September until the last week of January. Semester two begins early February and ends in late July.

Kenya Medical Training College website gives a broad range of modern-day courses that are available for interested students to apply. To help identify the various subjects, specific numbers are assigned to each of them with the course number of that department. Kenya Medical Training College Nairobi, as well as other subsidiaries across the country, offers over 50 courses at the different levels including:

• Environmental Health
• Community Nutrition
• Health Information and Records
• Clinical Medicine
• Dental Technology
• Medical Imaging Science
• Pharmacy
• Optometry Technology.

While working in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, the college offers degree courses in Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Nutrition, and Clinical Medicine. It also works with the Cardiff Metropolitan University of the United Kingdom to offer Environmental Science degree.

There three categories of the Kenya Medical Training College fee structures namely: regular, foreign, and parallel or in-service structures. These keep changing from time to time and students are advised to confirm the amount to pay at the beginning or end of academic year through the Kenya Medical Training College portal or website www.kmtc.ac.ke/portal where they are expected to log in. All students are also encouraged to pay their fees promptly to avoid interfering with the training.

Several organizations work with Kenya Medical Training College to support needy students as they pursue their health career. They include Ismail Rahimtulla Trust, Toyota Foundation, Ministry of Health, Funzo Kenya and Rarransi Educational Trust. While most of these organizations do not cover all the fee requirements, others like Toyota Foundation offer full sponsorship every year. This is usually based on merit where the student does a qualification test.
