Selling on Jumia Kenya’s online marketplace makes so much sense now than it did a year ago when the platform launched. Last year alone, Jumia increased sales by 900% meaning that each of the sellers on the site increased their profit margins by an admirable percentage.
Retailers of all sizes have then been attracted to the marketplace by the promise of tapping into the company’s expansive customer base countrywide, using its storage, shipping, customer service and of course having their shops open 24 hours a day.
Clearly, time has proved that the perceived fear of losing customer allegiance, brand control and unknown risks were nothing but assumptions. Local and international brands such as Bata, Nairobi Sports House, Armco, Darling hair, L’Oreal have since opened their online shops on the platform.
Microsoft, Infinix, Tecno, Innjoo and Samsung among others have also taken advantage of Jumia’s wide distribution network to launch new handsets into the market with exclusive prices on Jumia.
But it’s not only the big names selling on Jumia, small retailers, bloggers and students are also making quick bucks selling on Jumia and for Jumia. Here’s how.
The seller centre Portal
The Seller Centre is a portal that gives entrepreneurs and retailers full access to all their operational transactions with JUMIA, as well as the opportunity to view their products and update stock and prices. Jumia trains sellers on how to monitor their sales, as well as pending, shipped and cancelled orders on their own.
Any entrepreneur is allowed to sell on the Online Marketplace, the product has to be brand-new, unused, unopened in its original packaging, with all original packaging materials included. Original manufacturer’s warranty, if any, with warranty details included in the listing comments.
The free access to the seller centre keeps the retailer in the loop during customer interactions ensuring that sales, follow-up and any returns take place in the secure space of the seller.
You can sell on Jumia through drop shipping – This is where the online marketplace seller takes images of the products he intends to sell, uploads them on Jumia website and once an order for an item has been made, Jumia sends a rider to collect the item from the seller and delivers it to the customer.
Jumia will then charge an agreed commission only for items sold.
In this model, Jumia will keep the products an online marketplace seller is selling in their warehouse. The seller remains the owner of the goods until they are paid for in full and after a certain period takes back the unsold goods. The seller can add stock as they wish and exchange in line with the agreed duration.
Become an affiliate
This year Jumia launched the affiliate program that bloggers and trendsetters can sign up to and earn money. As an Affiliate you will be trained on how to use the affiliate account to generate dedicated links for products on Jumia website that you would like to promote on your blogs, websites or social media accounts.
You will then earn commissions of upto 11% from customers who click and purchase any items from your link and can use banners generated for you via your affiliate link the more creative you are in posting for your target audience the more successful you will be in selling. A Jumia executive will be on standby to offer you step by step support.
