Alliance High School (or AHS) popularly known as “Bush”, was the first school in Kenya to offer secondary school education to Africans. It was founded on 1 March 1926 by the Alliance of Protestant Churches – The Church of Scotland Mission (later known as the Presbyterian Church of East Africa or PCEA), Church of the Province of Kenya (CPK), African Inland Church (AIC), and the Methodist Church.
Founded in 1959 by the late Dr. Geoffrey Griffin and other two co- founders, the late Geoffrey Geturo and the late Joseph Gikubu, Starehe is a charitable institution that provides care and education for boys in need. It runs a Centre, Secondary School and a tertiary Institute offering Accountancy and Computer studies.
Alliance Girls’ High School is a national girls’ boarding school located near the small town of Kikuyu in the Kiambu District of the Central Province of Kenya, 20 km from Nairobi. It is within walking distance from its brother school Alliance High School.Founded in 1948 by the Alliance of Protestant Missions, Alliance Girls’ High School was the first institution of higher education for African girls in Kenya, and served in parallel lieu to Kenya High School that then only admitted European girls.
Moi high school-Kabarak is a private mixed-boarding school started in 1979 to offer secondary education to Kenyan students. Kenya High School had its beginnings in 1910 when a co-educational school called the Nairobi European School began in buildings designed for police Barracks. In 1931 the boys were separated from the girls. In 1935, the school was renamed The European Girls Secondary School and had its first Headmistress, Miss Kerby appointed. The buildings consisted partly of temporary wooden huts located on the compound of the present Nairobi Primary school, with whom the secondary school shared the present buildings. Staff housing was scattered in the vicinity of Protectorate Hill. In 1939, the school was renamed The Kenya High School.
